Peppermint Shrimp Dining

I've never actually seen a Peppermint Shrimp eating an Aiptasia within my aquarium even though they are part of my clean up crew.  Having said this, I have often read on forums that to stand the best change of seeing some action - you need to introduce more than one shrimp.  The preferred ambush tactic of these little critters is group warefare.

Take a look at this You Tube video, and you can see exactly what these little fellows are capable of.

Foot Chewing Fish Spread Foot Rot

Please, I apologise before I go any futher.

I don't know how many of you have noticed this latest craze in our shopping centres?

It works like this. She who must be obeyed decides she wants a foot pedicure.

Said wife, spends £30 of your hard earned money and then proceeds to place her clod hoppers in a small fish tank full of Turkish toothless Carp.  I'm not making this up!

The UK Health Protection Agency has said this practice is now subject to a large investigation.  While your better half has her feet in the fish tank, she could be contracting all manner of

nasty diseases.

You can read the full story on the Daily Mail website.

Cheese sticks anyone?

Yuck.

Soft Corals Contain Deadly Palytoxins

Next time you fancy a little coral fragging, you may want to think carefully about health and safety.  Several soft corals contain a palytoxin.

If you are unlucky enough, you may end up with a case of palytoxin posioning yourself.

To stay safe, make sure you use eye protection, consider gloves and always, always wash your hands after handling corals.

Safe Reefing everyone.

Biorb fish tanks could be hiding a Monster

I've heard a few scare stories from fellow aquarists regarding Eunice worms that have grown to biblical proportions.

Okay, so you would be very unlucky to find a large one in Biorb fish tanks.  Even a 6 inch one could deliver rather a nasty nip to your bare flesh!

Moving live rock around as part of an aquascaping exercise in an established tank, can result in the innocent fish keeper discovering pets they did not know they owned.

If you have never seen a Eunice worm before, take a look a this article in the Daily Mail (its not a Enuice worm, but trust me - they look very similar)

Armour re-inforced gloves anyone?

Beefy Bailiff Confiscates Biorb Copy!

Okay, its a slightly old story that I have just stumbled upon.

Whilst Reef One were exhibiting their Biorb fish tanks at a certain trade shown over in Germany, a copy cat manufacturer faced the wrath of court appointed bailiffs.

Someone obviously was not aware of the principals of registered patents!

I'm sure that some UK aquatic companies are indeed struggling, its nice to seem someone sticking up for themselves.  Its only right that if a company invests serious money and time into developing a product, they are able to protect their interests.

Biorb Fish Tanks - The Biorb 105 is here

Reef One's latest addition to the Biorb Fish Tanks family is the Biorb 105l.  Its true, that nano fish tanks do have their fair share of critics.  The introduction of this tank should go some way towards pacifying such comments.

As the name suggests, the tank holds an impressive 105 litres of water.  This aquarium is ideal for either tropical or marine setups in my opinion.

Given the larger volume you have to work with, it should be possible to come up with some interesting aquascaping - be live rock if you keep marines or drift wood if you are a tropical fan.

Of course, the larger size increases the livestock possibilities that will be open to you.  I'm going to take a closer look at this tank in a few weeks hopefully.

I think this aquarium looks great.  Nice one Reef One!
